Barking & Dagenham Council’s planning committee gave unanimous backing to the latest phase of the East London mega-scheme, which will be delivered in partnership with the Mayor of London through Barking Riverside Limited (BRL).
The new plans cover 12 blocks ranging from four to 15 storeys on a site east of the future District Centre.
Construction is due to start at plot 210 in April 2026, with work to be delivered by L&Q’s in-house construction team, which has already handed over 709 homes at Barking Riverside.
Around 30% of the homes will be for social rent and 28% for London Living Rent, targeted at first-time buyers.
Almost 70% of the homes are designed for families, with two- and three-bedroom flats making up the bulk of provision.
The scheme, designed by GRID Architects with planning support from Savills, will also include over 2,000 sqm of communal amenity space, rain gardens, food growing areas, and green roofs.
Walsh Group is structural engineer on the job with XCO2 Energy on board as M&E engineer.
The 20,000-home masterplan is backed by £124m of Homes England infrastructure funding and is one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe.
